hen it comes to floral design trends, there are so many
aspects to consider beyond just settling on a colour
palette. Textures, floral varieties, vessels, overall aesthetic and
vibe, styling props and textiles all have an influence on how
your design comes together. Social media inspiration can
be incredibly overwhelming. Not to worry loves, the 2020
season is boasting some major gorgeous trends, and I’ve
simplified them for you here.
Bleached and Dried Floral, Foliage and Grasses:
We’ve all recently seen the gorgeous and enormous
pampas grass arches, arbours, aisleway features, and beautiful
bleached bridal bouquets literally everywhere in the last few
seasons, and let me tell ya, they’re here to stay. Designers
are using bleached, lightened, dried and colour enhanced
ingredients to elevate their designs, and make a statement.
These elements can be incorporated into virtually anything,
but look amazing in hanging installations, floating like texture
filled clouds over feature tables and ceremony areas. Try
using bunny tail grass, dried palm leaves, bleached greenery
or spray-painted baby’s breath alongside neutral toned fresh
flowers for a boho brides dream come true!

Foraged, Local and Eco-Friendly:
More floral designers are searching for and sourcing locally
grown fresh flowers and foliage. Seasonally inspired designs
are becoming more sought after by today’s wedding clients.
Earth tones, ethically foraged foliage and greenery, fruit and
eco-friendly design mechanics for large and small scale designs
are trending. These locally grown flowers, branches and even
grasses lend a natural and artful appearance to any floral,
and can act as a beautiful way to bridge colour palettes. Try
incorporating fruit into your guest tablescape, or gnarly, twisted
ethically foraged branches and vines into your floral decor.
Smaller Sized, UK Posy Inspired Bridal Bouquets:
We all know that I love a massive bridal bouquet! Editorial style
floral bouquets are gorgeous, and certainly a statement for
any couple, however the trend seems to be moving toward
a more UK inspired hand-tied posy. Smaller sized bridal and
bridesmaid bouquet styles are beautiful, feminine and lend
an opportunity to really showcase specific floral and foliage
ingredients. Consider dainty floral choices, like sweet pea, ber-
ries, lisianthus or butterfly ranunculus in the summer months,
while hellebore, specialty tulips or flowering fruit branches are
perfect for spring. Have your floral designer order a beautiful
botanically dyed silk ribbon for the handle and you’re on your
way to the perfect ethereal bouquet. •
