Nakiyemba Rebecca will live in the new quarters with her seven children . Some of Rebecca ’ s children are her wards from siblings who passed away from complications of HIV / AIDS . Rebecca was born in the Buyomba village and teaches the youngest children at the school .
Tebenenya Betty has two children and was born in the Nyenga village , about a 10-mile walk from Buyomba . Prior to moving into her new housing at the school , she had to walk miles each way to teach , leaving her children at home while she worked . Now , they can all stay onsite together . Betty is the senior female teacher at the school and instructs children in the first three levels .
Masaba Aidati teaches the children at the second through fourth levels . She ’ ll live in the quarters with her four ( soon to be five ) children . On top of her responsibilities in the classroom , Aidati is the coordinator of child welfare at the school . She oversees the assessment of home and school conditions , alerting school leaders to the needs of the children .
Namataka Suzan will live in the quarters with her four children . She originally hails from the small village of Sironko , Uganda , which lies at the foot of Mount Elgon — a mountain straddling the border of Uganda and Kenya . Suzan teaches students in levels three and four , as well as social studies for the school .
Byantalo Hassan is the head teacher ( principal ) of the school . Before moving into the new housing , Hassan traveled seven miles each way to school through a combination of walking and paying for rides , which consumed nearly half of his salary . He ’ s taught at Buyomba Community Academy for nearly six years , which is considered a long time for a village school . He teaches children in levels four and seven .
