The year 2020 proved how much we value connecting with others online , as we found ourselves physically distanced . Most children turned to the web to attend online class , connect with others on social media , and play online games with friends . Although the internet has become a critical communication tool and acceptable social engagement platform , it can be an especially dangerous place for children . Cyber predators have mastered advanced techniques to access children through the internet — and this access too often leads to tragic consequences .
Over half of victims in human trafficking cases are children ( 52.1 percent ), and 55 percent of survivors report meeting their trafficker online . Due to COVID-19 restrictions , children are even more at risk due to increased unsupervised time spent online . Consequently , there ’ s a higher demand for law enforcement to take a proactive role in combating online predators . As law enforcement agencies explore undercover online chatting and sting operations , logistics are challenging .
The dōTERRA Healing Hands Foundation ® supports law enforcement agencies that investigate child exploitation with Internet Crimes against Children ( ICAC ) standards . Undercover training enables law enforcement to become familiar with the ICAC standards , build an undercover chat persona , become familiar with current chat apps and lingo , learn how to set up undercover operations , and other important and effective strategies .
