2020 AWARDS CEREMONY
On March 5th , 2020 , the Fayetteville Police Department hosted the annual Awards Ceremony at Cape Fear Botanical Gardens . These ceremonies celebrate all the accomplishments achieved by both officers and citizens that occurred in the previous year . The Awards Ceremony is dedicated to honoring the valor , commitment , and service provided by all Fayetteville Police Officers , but also to outstanding citizens in the community .
Among those distinguished in the ceremony include the 2019 Police Officer of the Year , Sergeant Ante Brusich , the 2019 Tele-Communicator of the Year , Kawanna McNeill , and the 2019 “ Cathy Bell ” Civilian of the Year , Kimberly Thomas . Their dedication and service to both the department and the community is continually appreciated by the Fayetteville Police Department . A Fort Bragg paratrooper was also honored during the ceremony for his heroism and bravery that he showed during a critical incident in 2019 .

Pfc . Patrick Montgomery was presented the 2019 Exemplary Citizens award by Chief Hawkins for his quick actions when a local business owner was robbed and shot one evening . By creating a tourniquet out of a power tool cable , Montgomery was able to save the life of the business owner . Of Pfc . Montgomery , Chief Hawkins said , “ We not only appreciate his sacrifices to our country , but also his selfless actions he took that night as he provided life-saving measures .” The Fayetteville Police Department is proud to honor these individuals and is looking forward to the 2021 Awards Ceremony .
