Party at Cardon Children’s
Medical Center
Most people wouldn’t see a blood transfusion as cause for celebration, much
less your 100th transfusion. Mia McPoland is not most people. Mia was born with
Diamond Blackfan anemia, a rare blood disorder that causes her body to produce
no red blood cells at all. Mia relies completely on blood donations. Mia’s blood
type of A-positive can receive donations of A-positive and -negative as well as
O-positive and -negative blood. To show her gratitude for continued donations
and to collect toys for kids in the hospital, Mia (who turned 11 Sept. 19) threw a
party for her 100th blood transfusion at Mesa’s Cardon Children’s Medical Center
Aug. 29. Mia’s friends and family, children from the hospital and big names from
the East Valley all joined in the celebration.
