Chandler Program Molding Future Leaders
Now in its third year, the Chandler Youth Council Advisory Program continues to instill arts appreciation, community advocacy and leadership in teens. Debbie Rubenstrunk, who created and leads the youth sessions, affectionately calls the program “Build a Board Member.” The September-to-February sessions teach personal finance, etiquette, public relations, leadership, legal issues and more. “For me it’s a real honor to be able to work with them [the teens] and help them learn new things,” Rubenstrunk says. Some sessions feature guest speakers in the field, but the students’ main project is creating a fundraiser.
