Charles L . and Miki Grant give $ 4 million to Halifax Health
In March of this year , Charles L . and Miki Grant announced a $ 4 million gift to enhance cancer services at Halifax Health , the community ’ s health system . The gift will be used to enhance patient services for people in their journey with cancer . In addition , Halifax Health - Center for Oncology building at Halifax Health ’ s Daytona Beach campus will now be named after the Grants and most noticeably the building will become The Charles L . and Miki Grant Cancer Center for Hope . According to Jeff Feasel , Halifax Health president and chief executive officer , “ the Cancer Center for Hope , as it will be called , is a comprehensive cancer center dedicated to a multidisciplinary approach to treating patients and is focused on treating and supporting patients by providing system navigation and many patient support initiatives like survivorship programs , tumor boards , genetic screening , nutrition assistance and more . The Grant ’ s gift will be used to enhance these wrap around services by creating new positions for a licensed social worker , a multidisciplinary navigator and a colorectal navigator .” As cancer care evolves , the social determinants of health like transportation , food security and mental health have become more important and this is a gift for the whole community to share .”
Charles has been a resident of Ormond Beach since 2004 and Miki , a resident since 1996 . Chuck , as he is known has extensive experience with large global Fortune 500 companies in medical devices , industrial equipment and laboratory equipment products . In addition he has private equity and venture investing experience in the spirits industry , education , mental health , energy and telemarketing . Locally , Chuck has served as a past president , chairman of the bond committee and chairman of the SALLY golf tournament at Ocean Side Country Club . “ Miki and I wanted to do something for the community which has embraced us . I have been on the board for Halifax Health - Foundation and view the health system as one of , if not the greatest assets in our community .” The other element that was important to the Grants ’ decision was to help people with resources for early detection and education about cancer which touches so many people . It was Chuck ’ s idea to add “ Hope ” to the name of the building and program . “ As a cancer survivor , I know how important positive attitude and hope are to surviving the disease . I hope the name provides inspiration and positive vibes to the amazing programs in the center .”

Halifax Health - Center for Oncology was founded in 1975 by physicians , including Herbert Kerman , MD , to provide the most advanced cancer care in Volusia County . The center has grown over the years to be the most advanced , comprehensive and most preferred cancer center in east central Florida , which includes : seven medical oncologists , two radiation oncologists and the only gynecologic oncologist in the area , plus the first IntraOperative Radiation Therapy breast cancer treatment , Brain Lab and the daVinci Robot .
