Type of Operation
The majority of spas (56%) describe themselves as single location operations.
One in 10 spa businesses (10%) said they are one of a number of locations within the same state
or region and owned by the same owner/company.
Operations with a franchise affiliation account for 25% of spas. The proportion is highest among
day spas (32%).
Overall, 9% of businesses said they are affiliated with a national corporate headquarters. The
proportion with such an affiliation is highest among resort/hotel spas (39%).
