Knoxville/Oak Ridge/Clinton/Chestnut Hill
Knoxville, a short 35-mile drive from Pigeon Forge,
is home to the University of Tennessee, Dogwood
Arts Festival, Knoxville Zoo, Ijams Nature Center,
Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame and other
worthy stops. Jonesborough
Tennessee’s oldest city, Jonesborough was founded in
1779. The town is filled with 18th century buildings that
have been restored and converted to shops and
restaurants. Just down the road in Greeneville, you’ll find
the home of Andrew Johnson, America’s 17th president.
Oak Ridge is home to world-changing history. Learn more
at the American Museum of Science and Energy, the
nation’s largest energy museum. Take a walking tour of
the past with a visit to the living mountain village at the
Museum of Appalachia in nearby Clinton. Sevier County

visitors, there are other parts of Sevier County you may
find interesting.
Chestnut Hill is where you’ll find Bush Brothers &
Company, producers of approximately 80% of the baked
beans consumed in the United States. The Bush Visitors
Center includes a museum, retail shop and café.
Asheville/Cherokee, North Carolina
The 8,000-acre Biltmore Estate and the largest private
residence in the United States sit right outside Asheville.
George Vanderbilt created Biltmore in 1895. Today, daily
tours, breathtaking gardens and the Biltmore Legacy
exhibit are just a few reasons the estate is a popular
destination for groups of all ages.
Nearby Cherokee offers the opportunity to experience
early Native American life at the Oconaluftee Indian
Village. Include a presentation of “Unto These Hills,” the
story of the Cherokee Trail of Tears, on your tour. Test
your gambling skills at Harrah’s Cherokee Casino.
Chattanooga
Ride the Incline Railway to the top of Lookout Mountain,
tour Rock City and Ruby Falls. Visit Chickamauga, one of
the Civil War’s most historic battlefields. The city of
Chattanooga also is home to the Tennessee Aquarium.
The Sevier County Courthouse, on the National Register
of Historic Places, showcases a one-of-a-kind sculpture
of Dolly Parton. The Harrisburg Covered Bridge and
Forbidden Caverns are popular attractions for groups,
and sports fans will enjoy a Tennessee Smokies AA
baseball game. Just up the road in Gatlinburg, you’ll find
a variety of activities, including the Gatlinburg Aerial
Tramway and Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies.
