Prevention Coalition Philadelphia,
PA South Philadelphia Prevention Coalition (SPCC)—in partnership
with the Philadelphia Network of Coalitions, United Communities,
Transformation to Recovery, Community Council, Cheltenham
Communities That Care, and the West Philadelphia Prevention
Coalition—hosted the 3rd Annual Community Impact Conference in
Philadelphia. The conference’s goal was to strengthen communities by
coming together during NPW to raise awareness about the importance
of substance use prevention and mental health awareness and
treatment. The conference included engaging workshops and resource
vendors, as well as a keynote speech from former local sports
broadcaster and founder and president of Overcome Thyself Ministries,
Don Tollefson. The Wayne Focus Wayne, MI During NPW, the Wayne Focus set up a community information booth
to make a series of announcements and short speeches on various
anti-drug topics, which were recorded and shared through their social
media accounts. Additionally, the organization sent out prevention
information through its social media accounts and distributed physical
materials throughout the community in locations such as libraries,
hospitals, and schools.
Westlake High School Waldorf, MD During NPW, Westlake High School hosted a school fair with health
and wellness booths. Each class attended an assembly with a different
health-related topic, such as suicide prevention, prescription drug
misuse prevention, men’s and women’s physical and mental health
issues, and sexual assault prevention and assistance. Additionally, the
high school hosted a parent program called “Hidden in Plain Sight,”
which entailed educating parents about factors that could signal risky
teenage behavior; parents had the opportunity to talk with police
personnel and school resource officers after the presentation.
Southern Arizona VA
Health Care System Tucson, AZ All week during NPW, team members from the Southern Arizona VA
Health Care System hosted a fair in the lobby of the hospital to share
a variety of prevention resources, new prevention-related swag, and
trivia prizes. The fair aimed to spread awareness of available resources
for veterans and promote courses for veterans about nicotine
replacement, naloxone kits, and more.

Coalition Antelope
Valley, CA During NPW, Tarzana Treatment Centers and the AVMAPP coalition
hosted What Do You(th) Know?, a summit for youth, parents, and
community leaders and members who work with youth. The summit
included presentations about mental health and trauma among youth,
as well as a youth panel discussion about the issues they face and
possible solutions.
TOGETHER! Grand Mound,
WA
2019 OUTCOMES REPORT
In April, TOGETHER! hosted Healthy Futures: Redefining Prevention, a
two-day conference focused on preventing substance use in youth and
their families. The conference featured experts on adverse childhood
experiences, youth talk circles, school-based crisis services, harm
reduction, racial equity, sexual abuse prevention, and more.
