4. BIRDING
League City is ranked one of the top
five birding destinations in the United
States, with more than 220 species
of birds. Located on the Great Texas
Coastal Birding Trail, League City is a
popular rest stop for North American
migratory birds traveling the Central
Flyway.
Along the city’s many trails and in
bird appreciation parks, you can spot
the Purple Gallinule, Red-Headed
Woodpecker, Great White Pelican and
the once endangered Brown Pelican.
5. LOCAL EVENTS
The city hosts many events
throughout the year that offer a good
time for the whole family. On the third
Saturday of each month, you can take
in Bay Area Blue Grass Concerts at the
Johnnie Arolfo Civic Center.
During the spring and summer
months, you can catch Concerts in the
Park every weekend at League Park.
During the first weekend of May, enjoy
the League City Music Festival and BBQ
Cook-Off. The Space City Cruisers Car
Show is a weekly showcase of cars held
from March through November.
Airplane enthusiasts look to the skies
every October for the Wings Over
Houston Air Show at Ellington Field.
The annual Holiday in the Park Parade
and Festival, held the first weekend in
December, is a favorite holiday tradition
for many area families.
6. PARKS AND RECREATION
League City’s many parks and
recreational opportunities include
Big League Dreams Sports Park,
Hometown Heroes Park, Ghirardi Family
WaterSmart Park, Dr. Ned and Fay
Dudney Clear Creek Nature Center and
Chester L. Davis Sportsplex.
7. MUSEUMS
History leaps to life in League City’s
museums and historic areas. The area’s
ranching past is in good hands at the
Butler Longhorn Museum, while the
West Bay Common School Children’s
Museum showcases daily life in the
late 1800s. Lone Star Flight Museum
recently moved from Galveston Island to
Ellington Airport. In nearby La Porte, the
San Jacinto Museum of History is home
to the famous Battleship Texas, as well
as a wealth of Texas history artifacts.
8. KEMAH BOARDWALK
Voted one of Forbes Top 10 Texas
attractions, the Kemah Boardwalk offers

something for everyone, from carnival
games and rides to boating, shopping
and restaurants. Special events are held
throughout the year, from fireworks
every Friday during July to Rock the
Dock Concerts, Boo on the Boardwalk in
October and Jingle on the Boardwalk in
December.
9. SPACE CENTER HOUSTON
As the Official Visitor Center for
NASA’s Johnson Space Center, Space
Center Houston is the only place on
Earth that gives guests an out-of-this-
world journey through human adventures
in space. In 2018, Space Center Houston
became Certified Autism Center. NASA’s
iconic Mission Control Center in Houston
has been under reconstruction, and
the project is expected to wrap up in
summer 2019, just in time for the 50th
anniversary of Apollo 11’s lunar landing
on July 20, 1969.
10. BAYOU WILDLIFE ZOO
Bayou Wildlife Zoo in Alvin is one of
only four open range zoos in the state
of Texas. Take a safari-like adventure
throughout 80 acres of natural habitat
and observe more than 500 animals and
birds from 60 different species from 19
different countries.
