Reflections on 2019
The only way I can possibly begin this 2019 summary
is to say Thank You! Thank You to every individual,
organization, and business recognized in this report
for your direct and in-kind donations to our cause.
Because of your generous spirit we have, over the
years, been able to permanently preserve 52 pieces of
property on Kiawah Island totaling over 2300 acres.
Thank You for giving us the opportunity to progress
toward a permanent financial structure, encompassing
an Endowment opportunity and Legacy Donor
program. Both plans promise to offer financial
stability through long-range planning.Thank You for
your commitment to our Naturally Kiawah Habitat
program. The decals representing a habitat friendly
landscape may be seen on mailboxes all over the Island.
Over 70% of single-family homeowners meet the
minimum requirements of the program. That means
we have actually enhanced over 300 acres of habitat on
the Island through this initiative.
Thank You to our very talented trustees; former
ones for their vision and commitment, current ones
for their dedication and creativity. Begun in July
of 2019, our 2030 Strategic Plan, when completed
in December 2020, will offer a comprehensive and
specific roadmap for the continued evolution of the
Conservancy. We will transition from an organization
primarily concerned with land preservation to one also
enthusiastically championing the Ecological Health of
the many habitats of the Island.
Thank You to the hard-working professional staff of the
Conservancy. Their talents and dedication allow us to
continue to grow and excel.
I couldn’t be more excited about our future. We know
very well where we want to go and are thrilled to have
you with us on the journey. And I couldn’t be more
grateful to all who have assisted us over the years.
Thank You!

Kiawah Conservancy Board of Trustees
