Conclusion:
Our preliminary results indicate that there appears to be no relationship between the common clinical measures of lower motor neuron integrity (presence of fibrillation potentials and positive sharp waves) and the extent of muscle denervation in SCI. These results suggest that the descriptive usefulness of common clinical measures of denervation may be very limited when applied to SCI and should, at least, be supplemented with an assessment using the SMMT.
