Brain Clever
Lulu Keating, Yukon, 2009, Experimental, 5m
East meets West. A flashlight, made in China. Instructions
translated from Chinese into English. Can this flashlight
really make your brain clever?
A clever blend of great filmmaking, lyrical voice and visual
poetry – with more than a hint of irony. (And I love the
snowball shot!) Suzanne Crocker
Working Cats Guide to the
klondike
Veronica Verkley, Yukon, 2012, Documnetary, 10m
A short documentary recalling the traditional practice of Cat
Sledding, which was unique to Dawson City, in Canada’s far
north. The film offers a rare glimpse of a nearly forgotten
method of transportation and way of life.
I love Verkley’s film for its dilgent research and candid
interviews, and for enabling Klondike feline athletes to
proudly puff up their purring chests – between naps.

And Last–chapter 8
Jay Armitage, Yukon,2016, Animation, 7m
Robert Service describes his thoughts and feelings on leaving
Dawson City for the last time.
“And Last” depicts Dawson City’s 1902 actual streetscape
(to scale) and recites a passage from Robert Service’s
autobiography Ploughman of the Moon, which served as his
goodbye to Dawson and a reminder for us about the people
who have touched our lives in the North, only to leave and
never return. Bill Kendrick
Sauer is Burning
Moira Sauer, 2013, Yukon, Documentary, 10m
In a last ditch effort to find the man of her dreams,
Whitehorse actor Moira Sauer bares all at a birthday bonfire
that reveals a lot more than skin.
This quirky film reveals filmmaker Moira Sauer’s trademark
humour. Danny Dowhal
The Potato Cuff Bluff
Emile Bouffard, Chris Clarke, David Curtis, Charles Atlas
Sheppard, Yukon, narrative, 5m
A sore shoulder and an evil plan for survival.
The style, wit and cleverness of this film is awesome; plus,
I’ve now learned how to trick someone into cutting my own
wood! Gaby Sgaga
