Manase is no stranger to
scholarship and competition
success. He has been awarded

Scholarships, Universities NZ
Patricia Pratt and Kiwi Music
Scholarships, and has attended the
New Zealand Opera school where
he was awarded the Merle Higgie
Opera Prize.

In 2015, Manase was awarded the
Iosefa Enari Memorial Scholarship
presented by Creative NZ, given
to a person, of Pacific Island
decent, who has succeeded in
their field whilst giving back to the
community.
Born in New Zealand, Tongan
Tenor Manase Latu graduated from
the University of Auckland with a
Bachelor of Music with First Class
Honors under Dr. Te Oti Rakena.
A previous Dame Malvina Major
Emerging Artist, he has covered
and performed roles such as
Spoletta Tosca, Nemorino L’elisir
D’amore, Defendant Trial by Jury,
Parpignol La Bohome, Count
Almaviva Il barbiere di Siviglia with
NZ Opera.
In 2017, Manase was invited to
join the Singer Development
Programme run by the Kiri Te
Kanawa Foundation. The Kiri
Programme is available only to a
select group of young singers who
are considered by the Foundation
to have exceptional potential,
and provides teaching modules
that focus on developing skills
necessary to build a career as an
opera singer.
Manase has been a member of
national choirs and ensembles
including; Auckland Chamber
Choir, New Zealand Youth Choir,
Voices NZ Chamber choir,
Freemasons NZ Opera chorus,
National Youth Choir of Great
Britain as well as the Great Britain
Chamber, but now sets his sights
on the Operatic stage.
2018 was a successful year,
where Manase was selected as a
finalist for the Lexus Song quest
competition, New Zealand’s most
prestigious singing competition.
