Jared Holt has a degree in Classics and Law
(Honours). Winner of the 2000 Mobil Song Quest
in New Zealand, he furthered his vocal studies at
the Royal College of Music in London, and later
joined the Jette Parker Young Artists Programme
at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.
Having enjoyed a successful career as a baritone,
Jared has now made the transition to tenor.
As a baritone, Jared appeared with the Royal Opera House Covent
Garden, Glyndebourne Festival and Touring Opera, Teatro Giuseppe Verdi,
Northern Sinfonia, Opera Australia, NBR New Zealand Opera, Auckland
Philharmonia, Christchurch City Choir, Napier Civic Choir, and at the
Adelaide and Auckland Festivals. His baritone roles included Silvano (Un
Ballo in maschera), Schaunard (La Boheme), Valentin (Faust); Eisenstein
(Die Fledermaus); Silvio (Pagliacci); and Sharpless (Madama Butterfly ).
His oratorio and concert performances included Bach Passions and
Christmas Oratorio; Britten War Requiem; Handel Messiah; Orff Carmina
Burana; and Poulenc, Schumann, Schubert and Strauss songs and song
cycles. Jared also recorded the role of Melot (Tristan und Isolde) with
the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House Covent Garden under Antonio
Pappano on EMI Classics.
Jared made his debut as a tenor, with the New Zealand String Quartet in
a new song cycle, In Memoriam, by Janet Jennings. This year he covered
the title role in Werther for Opera Australia, and appears with New
Zealand Opera (Prologue/Peter Quint in Britten’s Turn of the Screw),
Christchurch Symphony Orchestra (Mozart’s Requiem), and Napier Civic
Choir (Beethoven Symphony No. 9 and Choral Fantasy).
