I’m beyond grateful for being placed at Jubilee Arts for my CIIP placement. Not only do I completely agree with the entire mission of Intersection of Change in general, but I also found myself completely welcomed and immersed in the Jubilee Arts/ Youth in Business family. Working with Youth in Business was something that I knew would be a good fit for me, having a background in Graphic Design and Business; however, my expectations were completely blown away. I was a little worried about how I was going to get the youth to like me, to listen to me, and in general build a rela- tionship. Nonetheless by the end of our Summer Kickoff Retreat at Woodberry Farm, I felt like I already had connected with them. This whole summer I feel like I have built relationships with the youth in my program that are not going to end when CIIP does. Whether it was joking around during break, screen printing 200 t-shirts for the Orioles, helping one of the youth shoot his own YouTube vid- eo at Artscape, or even having a serious talk about life; I feel like we all opened up to each other and really learned a lot from one another. I’m very sad that this summer is coming to an end, and that when I go abroad in the Fall semester, I won’t be able to visit Jubilee--however, I already told Todd Marcus, the Director of the Intersection of Change, that as soon as I get back from Italy, I want to be able to once again help out the Jubilee/YiB family! • Taught Youth in Business a Digital Portfolio Building class, helping each team member create their own websites, upload their resumes, and their projects/work so that they can have a tangible portfolio to show and share to future employers • Created and executed a marketing campaign to help Youth in Busi- ness sell their custom Mosaic Street Address Signs, yielding 50 indi- vidual orders, and partnered with the Central Baltimore Partnership for another 20 signs for a block project • Helped run multiple classes for the youth, including: Graphic Design, Business Skills, Financial Literacy, Leadership Skills, and Healthy Relationships Community Partner: Jubilee Arts - Youth in Business Intern: Gabe Silveira Site Supervisor: Kim Loper What is Youth in Business? Youth in Business (YiB) is a program at Jubilee Arts that cultivates the entrepreneurial leadership skills of high school aged youth by provid- ing hands on experience operating an art-based business. Through the Youth in Business design collective, youth learn how to run a successful business as a team, selling high qual- ity art products achieving coopera- tive financial sustainability for youth business owners. Youth are supported in leadership development within the program in addition to career and higher education planning support to provide youth long-term economic independence. 29
