Two Extraordinary Leaders As NYC Emergency Management
Commissioner, Criswell has managed
the City’s response to numerous emer-
gencies including extreme summer
heat, large fires, and power outages
including blackouts on the west side of
Manhattan and in southern Brooklyn in
July 2019.
Deanne Criswell was appointed Com-
missioner of the New York City Emer-
gency Management Department (NY-
CEM) in 2019, and is responsible for
oversight of the City’s efforts to plan
and prepare for emergencies, educate

gust 2019, sponsored by the New York City Emergency Management Department and made up of
