In the early 1990’s, Crime Preven-
tion through Environmental De-
sign (CPTED) principles, one such
technology utilized in the devel-
opment of neighborhoods by the
National Institute of Crime Pre-
vention (NICP), was introduced to
connect these two worlds – unwanted
behavior and a physical deterrent.
