BY YOUR 2018-2019 NJCL OFFICERS
President: "The duties of NJCL President are a combination of three major aspects: relaying information and updating states on national contests and happenings, helping to prepare the National Convention, and aiding your officers in their duties." ~ Natasha Panduwuwala
1st VP: "As for the 1st Vice Presidency, this position on the board is unique in its flexibility. There are a few specifically defined tasks for the 1st Vice-President to undertake. The ultimate aim of a 1st Vice President is to increase membership in the JCL. In the pursuit of that effort, if you earn this position, you will be expected to work closely with your 2nd Vice-President counterpart to ensure a smooth, well-planned, and well-advertised National Classics Week." ~ Tim Han
2nd VP: "The 2nd Vice President is known as the person in charge of the NJCL’s spirit and service. This position oversees the spirit competitions for each General Assembly at national convention, organizes the national convention spirit project, judges the NJCL Club of the Month contests, and facilitates National Classics Week with the 1st Vice President." ~ Michaela Phan
Parliamentarian: "The Parliamentarian is at the forefront of the change regarding NJCL’s governing documents. The parliamentarian is in charge of Constitutional, Bylaw and Chapter Handbook amendments – proposing, drafting, the voting at National convention. The parliamentarian works closely with the Constitutional adviser, Mr. Webb, to carry out all duties assigned to the position. The parliamentarian is in charge of organizing and running all election and campaigning events at national convention (as well as recruiting candidates, the campaign corner, etc.). The parliamentarian also oversees that Robert’s Rules of Order is upheld along with all of NJCL’s governing documents."
~ Layla Fistos
Communications Coordinator: "The Communications Coordinator’s main jobs include running the monthly website contest, giving input on the website and making sure it’s updated, taking notes at officer breakout sessions of planning meetings, helping fellow officers with Skype calls, and keeping communication alive within JCL." ~ Natalie Hilderbrand
Historian: "The NJCL Historian is responsible mainly for creation and publication of the annual NJCL Scrapbook, encapsulating the year’s national and statewide/provincial events and chapters. This entails routine communication with state chapters and historians, which is necessary in order to collect pictures, details, and pertinent memorabilia. In addition, the historian runs and maintains the NJCL Photo of the Month Contest, and communicates with the Graphic Arts Chair and Publications Chair to approve and relay contest results." ~ Jesse Hogan
Editor: "An NJCL Editor’s main job is to assemble the Torch: U.S., which is a lot more work than most would think. The editor needs to maintain contact with other state editors to ask for state update submission articles. There is always room to be creative with the Torch: U.S. both content-wise and visually. The editor writes cover stories and other articles and formats all the written content into an aesthetic, organized publication. There are four issues released every year." ~ Anika Park
Officer duties may be found in the NJCL Bylaws on the NJCL website as well. Please note that officers attend a Fall Planning Meeting and Spring Planning Meeting in preparation of convention and in completion of their duties.
