WVUSD: 2019/2020 Year-End Results
Creativity and Innovation
The 2019/2020 school year provided an opportunity for WVUSD to create and innovate more
broadly and more rapidly than ever before. New ways of supporting students, through Distance
Learning, led to teacher and tech coach tutorial videos, which were shared with families to
increase home support.
The implementation of the Preschool Creative Curriculum assessment tool was used for
assessing students at the beginning of the school year.
WVUSD increased student participation in choir, dance, and drama. A primary grades fine arts
residency was implemented, and 1 st , 2 nd , and 3 rd grades all had fine art residents provide
instruction in either dance or theater.
This year, the Educational Services team initiated enrollment information nights for parents to
increase exposure of WVUSD’s District of Choice, Inter-District Transfer, and Allen Bill
enrollment opportunities. Four evening sessions were held at several, different school sites and
several, hundred families (living outside of WVUSD boundaries) attended.
The District continued to improve its technology infrastructure throughout our sites. The District’s
Information Technology (IT) Department staff teamed with Cisco Systems to determine
components that needed replacement. The solutions offered through Cisco will provide a
comprehensive approach to ever-expanding technology needs of students, teachers,
administrators, and staff, especially during the coronavirus crisis. Parents who are supporting
their children’s learning via Distance Learning have support and technical help from the IT staff.
Cisco Systems partnered with Walnut High School and Diamond Bar High School to develop
and implement the Cisco Academy. The Cisco Academy allowed selected students the
opportunity to learn and advance through certification courses that may lead them directly into
future technology industry jobs.
Achievement and Excellence at all school sites showcasing awards, refining and expanding
existing programs, and exploring future programs.
