children’s workshops ages June 11 – 15 June 18 – 22 June 25 – 29 Way of Tea Marvelous Monsters Natalie Squillante Sherri Kuecker 4th of July Parade Extravaganza 6-8YR / 1pm-4pm 6-8YR / 9am-3pm Soozie Lindbloom Embark on a cultural journey during this in- depth exploration of the Japanese Tea Ceremony. We begin with sculpting our own clay tea bowls known as yunomis, and then move on to crafting exotic trays using hand building techniques. We then apply traditional Japanese glazes and unique stamps to make our pots vibrant with surface design. While our pieces are being fired in the kiln, we study the different elements of the ceremony by creating hand painted kimonos, paper sculpted tea pots and unique fish prints. On the final day, we perform a tea ceremony for our friends and families while we share traditional tea and treats! FACULTY: Natalie Squillante grew up in coastal Rhode Island with a love for creating. She received her B.F.A. in Ceramics and Arts Education from the Maine College of Art in 2010. Natalie interned in the ceramics program at Anderson Ranch Arts Center for two years and previous to that was the founding children's teacher and studio manager of ceramics and creative arts at Jamestown Arts Center in Rhode Island. Currently, Natalie creates pots in Massachusetts where she fires a Japanese style wood kiln with her ceramic community. CONCEPT: Let your imagination be your guide in creating monsters of all shapes and sizes in this exciting multimedia workshop. We begin by sketching our kooky creatures in colored pencils, oil pastels, chalk and watercolors. We consider the magical traits of our monsters and what purpose they serve while drafting our illustrations. We then bring these illustrations to life using soft sculpture materials and techniques. Explore hand dyeing wools, needle felting, hand sewing, and even block printing your own fabric designs with colorful fabric inks for our monsters to wear. Let's take our imaginations on a monstrously wild ride! FACULTY: Sherri Kuecker received her Masters in education and counseling. She has been teaching students of all ages for the past 22 years and currently teaches at the Heritage Academy in Arizona. Sherri formerly worked as the Children’s Program Coordinator at Anderson Ranch Arts Center. 7+YR / 9am-3pm CONCEPT: TUITION $275 | REGISTRATION FEE $25 | STUDIO FEE $15 CODE K0202-18 | ENROLLMENT LIMIT 15 TUITION $425 | REGISTRATION FEE $25 CODE K0304-18 | | STUDIO FEE $20 ENROLLMENT LIMIT 15 CONCEPT: Join the team as we design an ultra- imaginative float for Aspen’s Old-Fashioned Fourth of July Parade! Lend your creativity and skills to help win the title of Best Children’s Float. We begin by drafting a master plan complete with an overall theme and float slogan. Then we spend the week painting, sculpting and decorating a variety of artful pieces to dazzle the crowds on this fun national holiday. We use fabric, wood, paint, glue and more. To top it all off, we tie-dye t-shirts and create costumes to wear while we walk alongside the float on the 4th of July.
