CONCEPT: Express yourself through jewelry design in a
workshop that explores a wide range of concepts relative
to personal adornment and narrative object. Working
with both traditional and alternative materials, including
silver, copper, wire, recycled materials and found objects,
we fashion items of personal importance, expression
and decoration. We also investigate the use of color
and collage as a design tool. Through demonstrations,
lectures and hands-on projects, we discover the many
methods of selection, integration and assembly inherent
to this limitless range of materials. The class is centered
around lectures and demonstrations, with plenty of time
for individual instruction.
MEDIA & TECHNIQUES: We work with mixed media
and found objects, low-tech jewelery methods, and
techniques using fundamental, simple attachments and
construction systems.
ACTIVITIES: Our days consist of demonstrations
and discussions, handouts and step-by-step tool and
equipment lessons.
FACULTY: Robert Ebendorf received his M.F.A.
from University of Kansas. He is a co-founder and past
president of the Society of North American Goldsmiths,
and in 1995 he was awarded the American Craft
Council Fellowship for his achievement in the field and
commitment to the craft movement. His work is included
in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Victoria and
Albert Museum, the British Museum, the Mint Museum
of Craft Design and the Yale University Art Gallery in New
Haven, among other collections. Robert recently retired
from East Carolina University in Greenville, N.C., where
he served as the Belk Distinguished Professor in the Arts
and in 2010 was awarded the North Carolina Governor’s
Award for Fine Arts.

O
CONCEPT: Add depth to your artistic practice in a
fun and engaging workshop that introduces students
to the fundamentals of sculpture by exploring basic
tools, mediums and principles of design. Students are
introduced to several techniques in creating three-
dimensional forms with wood, steel, plaster and mixed
media. We emphasize essential concepts related to
design through development of sketches, abstraction of
ideas and formal design throughout the week.
MEDIA & TECHNIQUES: We work with wood
fabrication, metal fabrication including cutting and
welding, plaster work, a combination of materials and
found objects, and finishes.
ACTIVITIES:
Students learn from technical
demonstrations, lectures, daily projects, one-on-one and
group discussions.
FACULTY: Jake Weigel is assistant professor of
sculpture at California State University, Stanislaus,
with previous teaching experience at the University of
Texas of the Permian Basin and Anderson Ranch. He has
over five years experience as a gallery director and has
exhibited widely throughout the U.S., with over 75 group

Expand your visual language in a unique
workshop that explores the creative process and
development of ideas within your personal work. In
this course, we take a simple concept and explore its
characteristics literally and metaphorically to expand
your visual language through multiple mediums. Students
are encouraged to consider various techniques to
quickly work through a range of related artworks that
can be further developed into a cohesive installation or
exhibition.
MEDIA & TECHNIQUES: Bring your imagination and an
open mind. We explore transmedia practice with sound
capture and editing, video, photography, sculptural object
making and installation design as appropriate within
individual studio practices.
ACTIVITIES:
This workshop uses technical
demonstrations, lectures, daily projects, one-on-one time
and group discussions.
