Livingston County Overdose Awareness Event, ILLINOIS This annual event focused on remembering community members who had lost their lives to overdose, helping those who are struggling with addiction find resources, and preventing youth from using substances. Community members participated in a 5K, with a children’s fun run held as well. Local resources were available for participants at tables hosted by the Institute for Human Resources, Livingston County Operation Snowball, OSF HealthCare, and more. Centerstone, ILLINOIS Centerstone, an organization that provides mental health and substance abuse treatment, education, and support, held an event in Carbondale, IL, to spread awareness about substance misuse and mental health. The event hosted speakers from the community as well as teens who shared what they have learned about substance misuse in schools. The event’s goal was to make the community more aware of prevention resources and strategies. Anthem, Inc., INDIANA Anthem, Inc. created “What’s Up with Opioids?”, a free Workshop Kit with ready-to-use tools and a step-by-step guide for discussing opioid misuse and addiction prevention. The Kit features a video and slideshow designed to educate youth and young adults about opioids, risk factors of use, warning signs, and prevention strategies. The Workshop Kit was made available to nonprofits, workplaces, schools, faith-based groups, parents, social clubs, and others. Fathers Who Care, West Garfield Park Youth Council, and West Garfield Park Community Stakeholders, ILLINOIS To highlight National Prevention Week, Fathers Who Care, along with the West Garfield Park Youth Council and the West Garfield Park Community Stakeholders, appeared on CAN TV Chicago to discuss opioid and marijuana misuse and the importance of educating the community about emerging substances and concerns on the west side of Chicago. They also touched on mental health and crisis intervention. Total Family Care Coalition, WASHINGTON, DC Total Family Care Coalition, a family-run organization in Washington, DC, partnered with First Stop Recovery to host an event to raise awareness about children’s mental health.
