Nokian Tractor King hits market

A new tyre design from one of the world ’ s leading tyre manufacturers is set to be a “ game changer ” for forestry entrepreneurs

Finland-headquartered tyre expert Nokian Tyres has released a new tyre design into the market that may transform the efficiency of operations for forestry professionals .

“ We ’ ve been in this business for decades and have been producing tractor tyres for forestry – these machines are getting bigger , more powerful and also becoming more versatile ,” Marko Muhonen , Nokian Tyres Business Line Director Forestry , told International Forest Industries .
“ Our discussions with customers shows there was a shifting demand here and we sought to provide a tyre for modern forestry applications as well as some agricultural applications .
“ We focused on a couple of things : grip and durability for rocky conditions ; and heavy loads . The main challenge to overcome was punctures but we wanted to also improve the wear rates and the capacity to carry units that include cranes or are simply bigger . And they have to be able to cope with this at much higher speeds than previously – 50 km / h is quite normal in some countries on certain sites . Speed combined with load is a problem .”
