Intermercato units are both highly accurate and robust S Economies of scale 64 International Forest Industries | FEBRUARY / MARCH 2018 wedish crane scale producer, Intermercato, has developed a new compact crane scale for material handlers, excavators, stationary log loaders and truck mounted timber cranes. The Intelweigh Compact MH scale is one big monolith without moving parts, bringing maintenance to a minimum. The round 395 mm massive scale body is not more than 140 mm high (10 t) and 170 mm (15 t), which renders both stability to the lifting process as well as it reduces the movement of the boom. A scale for a middle size excavator or a stationary log loader would typically have a measuring range of 10 t (Intelweigh Compact MH 10), which means it is dimensioned for 30 t. Over the years Intermercato scales have been used in scrap recycling. Normally these scales are mounted on machines like Liebherr, Sennebogen, Fuchs etc. Due to the extreme impact on scrap handling equipment, the challenges for these scales are enormous. Weighing must be possible in movement as there is no time to stop the machine and wait for a weighing result. The scales must resist forces from all sides, not only generated by the load itself but also from negative loads (pushing) and last, but not least, it must resist considerable radial forces. The multiple strain gauge technology in combination with Intermercato’s unique algorithm for calculation of weight in movement makes accurate weighing possible even under the most challenging conditions. In developing the design, the manufacturer had to grapple with the question of whether it was actually possible to produce a unit both rugged and accurate. In spite of its sturdy construction, the Intelweigh Compact has a surprisingly high resolution. Before delivery a 10 t scale is pushed through a calibration program made up by approximately 80,000 units. The Intelweigh Compact scale can easily be adapted to any loader and any rotator/grab. It can be bolted directly on a flat top rotator,
