The Jenz HEM 593 chipper Jenz has been supplying chipper trucks in different versions since 2006. A whole series of further developments, which relate particularly to the chipping unit, has been carried out over the past 10 years. Most recently, improvements to the drive concept were unveiled at Agritechnica 2017 under the tagline, ‘Chippertruck 2.0’. Jenz continues to rely on Man as a carrier vehicle. “As standard, we build on the Man TGS 28,500 6x4-4 or Man TGS 33,500 6x6 in the Euro 6c emissions class with 500 hp,” explained Stefan Müller, Research and Development Manager. “We now have maximum 2,500 Nm torque available instead of the previous 2,300 Nm. That’s equivalent to the torque produced by the old Euro5 engines with 540 hp.” In addition to more power, the Chippertruck 2.0 also stands out thanks to increased operating comfort. “The new automatic transmission plays a major role in this, because the machine operator no longer has to change gears,” according to Müller. The large gear spread ensures outstanding start-up characteristics with simultaneous low, fuel-saving engine speeds at higher transport speeds. “And that is not exactly unimportant for a chipper, because the transport costs should never be underestimated.” Jenz has also 38 International Forest Industries | DECEMBER 2017 / JANUARY 2018 revised the chipper drivetrain to increase operating comfort during chipping. “Our customers have been requesting that the machine can be driven forward without disengaging for a long time now,” explained Müller. Up to now this was not possible with the larger HEM 583 and 593 models since the power was transferred to the chipper via the auxiliary drive on the power divider. In order to solve this problem Jenz is now using the most powerful NMV on the market. “The huge advantage of this is that the NMV auxiliary drive can be disengaged both at a standstill and while travelling under load. This means that the vehicle can drive forward without disengaging, and it can therefore be moved extremely quickly, simply and powerfully over short distances. This is a huge The hydraulics of the Jenz HEM 593 have been revised on the chipping unit itself
