But not this time, with Casey Ralph scoring a hat trick, the girls won the final 4 – 1 to be crowned HB Champions. In term one Havelock North High School had six girls teams entered into the Tuesday night league. On Wednesday 7th March HNHS entered three girls teams in the HB Futsal Champs. The junior girls competition was played as two round robins and the winner was the team with the most points after the two rounds. In their final game against Scared Heart, Havelock North High School juniors were drawing on points with Napier Girls High so had to win by more than eight goals to take out the title, which they did. Going to Wellington spirits were high as we were top school in Hawkes Bay. First up we played Onslow College. Onslow scored in the first couple of minutes to put us on the back foot but then we came through and won 4 – 1. The second game we played St Peter’s College from Palmerston North and won. Next we played Baradine, from Auckland and won 4 – 3 in a hard fought match. This meant we finished the first day unbeaten and were through to top 8. The next morning we played Palmerston North Girls High, who went on to win the tournament, and lost 5 – 3. We then went on to lose to Hutt Valley High School finishing 8th on goal difference. There were two pools of senior girls team with the HNHS Black Team going through their pool games unbeaten to finish top of their pool. The HNHS White Team went through their pool games to finish 4th. In the semi-final the two Havelock North teams played each other, which was great practise for Anna Welsh before going to nationals. Trinity, the HNHS Black goal keeper had kept a clean sheet until Megan Tait and Annika Tissies scored against her in this game. Thank you to Miss Strawbridge and Paula Edilson for running girls futsal over the term 1 season. Roll on next season to see if we can better these results. The White team’s third and fourth play-off was against Taradale High School. HNHS unfortunately lost this game 3 – 2 so ended up coming 4th, which was great as it was a team that had never trained and never played together as a team. Congratulations to our Rep players this year; Casey Ralph who was selected for the Central Federation senior women’s team and Sophie Watt and Aimee Kay who were selected in the under 14 Central Federation team. In the final Havelock North High School, Black was up against NGHS whom they had beaten 6 – 0 in the pool matches. Nerves were high in the final, as although HNHS 71
