FROM A COBBLER TO A RENOWNED NATIONAL SPORTS COMMENTATOR

Ikwekwezi FM ’ s sports commentator finessed his skills when he was still in high school .

Tuis Mgidi was still in high school when he imitated radio sports commentators . A sports fanatic from a young age , the now 41-year-old from Tweefontein in Mpumalanga used to visualize himself as a sports commentator . As destiny would have it , Mgidi is now an IsiNdebele commentator on Ikwekwezi FM and SABC 1 .

“ Commentating was something I always loved from when I was young ; I was also a soccer player and grew up loving all kind of sports ,” shares Mgidi . After he moved to Johannesburg , he made a living by repairing shoes but his dreams to be a radio sports commentator never faded . As an avid Ikwekwezi FM listener , Mgidi heard about an opportunity to audition for a sports commentator and went for an interview in 2002 . In 2003 he auditioned and started working for Ikwekwezi FM in 2004 .
