On The Road Again
by Pat Haines
I can just see you all busily preparing for
another year of arts, learning, creativity
and theater making now.
In our Summer/Early fall edition we
celebrate the return to school in “The
Journey ‘Back-To-School,’” a Board
Perspective by Board Chair Stacey
Ardelean. We also look at some big picture
work being done in the arts education field
in “Teaching Teachers to Teach: The Arts
Integration Framework” by Daniel Klein
and “The Hustle—Economic Sustainability
in the Arts Education Field” by Scott Austin,
Heleya de Barros, and myself. Jay Gerlach
shares tips using theater to explore timely
topics, such as privilege, in “Relevant
Learning is Crucial to Student Success.”

Events!
Two of our members reflect on doing theater education and performance work
outside their own communities “Mi Experiencia Con Artistas en Puebla,” by
Sobha Kavanakudiyil and “On The Road Again” by Pat Haines. Angela Watson
also discusses another way the arts can be used to help broaden a student’s
perspective; sharing the research University of Arkansas’ Department of
Education Reform has done on arts field trips in “Greene Grows the Arts Research
in Arkansas.”
I hope you enjoy this edition, I look forward to hearing from our community all the
great work you will do in the upcoming school year!
Best,
