Pipers Sinfonia began life in 1999 when Auckland Choral’s then-Music Director, Peter Watts, decided to
form an orchestra to accompany the annual performance of Handel’s Messiah. The aim was to provide a
more historically informed approach to this repertoire. Pipers Sinfonia is made up of musicians who have
a special interest in early music and the stylish playing of modern instruments.
