TÚPAC MANTILLA percussion
Colombian percussionist Túpac Mantilla is
considered nowadays one of the leading forces in
the contemporary rhythm world, supported by
a prolific career as a sought after performer and
educator, which, besides granting him a Grammy ®
nomination (2009), the first prize at the 2003
Bogota’s Philharmonic Orchestra classical soloist
competition, and the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award
(U.S.A. 1997), includes appearances in concert halls
such as Carnegie Hall, lectures in institutions like
Harvard and Stanford University and collaborations
with artists such as Bobby McFerrin, Esperanza Spalding, Savion Glover and Zakir
Hussain to name a few.
As the artistic director and founder of the Global Percussion Network PERCUACTION
and Colombia’s Body Percussion troupe TEKEYÉ, Tupac’s innovative rhythm and
body percussion related methods, books and systems have benefited directly more
than 150,000 people around the world.
In recent years, Túpac’s focus has been centred around his Solo Percussion project,
successfully launching two shows: ‘ONE’ (2015), and ‘Body Songs’ (2018), which,
due to the energetic and highly-interactive concept, as well as the technological/
acoustic blending, have featured Tupac in sold-out concerts in Japan, Europe, North
and South America.
