MARYLAND FIRST LADY YUMI HOGAN is recognized for her support of children’s mental health. • JACKSON, Mississippi The Fifth Annual Children’s Mental Health Summit, hosted by Canopy Children’s Solutions in conjunction with the Mississippi Department of Mental Health, used the theme Every Child Can Be a Success: Creating Positive Outcomes. Mississippi First Lady Deborah Bryant shared her recent experience in Wisconsin with other “first spouses” learning about trauma-informed care and how it affects a child’s ability to cope and heal. • ANNAPOLIS, Maryland The Anne Arundel County MD RESPOND Grant hosted a community children’s mental health resource fair and panel presentation. First Lady Yumi Hogan spoke at the event and received an award for her work in children’s mental health. • PUERTO RICO The Iniciativa III Mayguez system of care organized a walk on May 10 in the community with young people, families, and staff. A press conference communicated about the system of care and the importance of trauma-informed care. • MISSION, South Dakota Tiwahe Glu Kini Pi partnered with local programs to host an event featuring a cookout, mascots from the schools, and representatives from the fire and police departments. They distributed t-shirts to the community that said: “Our trauma is what happened to us, NOT what defines us. Our culture, our ways, and working with all of creation can help guide us to heal our children, families, and community.” ICAREGUAM: Children use art therapy in support of Awareness Day.
