I feel I got the chance to have open conversations I couldn’t have before,” while another remarked, “Overall this was one of the best weekends at Hopkins.” Female Leaders of Color (FLOC) The students of Female Leaders of Color (FLOC) engaged in numerous activities this year. They kicked off the semester with a Soul Food Social to invite diverse women of color to the community. Throughout the semester, they also led several conversations around Women of Color and Wellness, including hosting Mental Health Panel, created Self-Care Masterlist, conversation with Dr. Sherita Hill Golden, MD, MHS., and Voices of Color collaboration with WGR themed on Mental Health. They collaborated with the BSU and Hopkins Feminists to hold Women & “Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation.” – Audre Lorde Femme Night, and MOCHA on Toxic Masculinity. FLOC also examined the distinct leadership of Women of Color by inviting leaders of Black Student Union, Inter-Asian Council, South Asian Students at Hopkins, Indigenous Students at Hopkins, Multicultural Leadership Council, Muslim Student Association, and more to join conversation on Women in Leadership. They did a follow-up conversation with Dean of Students, Dr. Smita Ruzicka to expand on the lived experiences of current Women of Color in leadership roles. FLOC’s biggest accomplishment was connecting with and mentoring six 8-10 year girls every Saturday in the Baltimore community with Living Classrooms. Men Of Color Hopkins Alliance MOCHA engaged an array of intentional programs that focused on the following areas: brotherhood, academic excellence, mentorship, professionalism, and community service. MOCHA continued its mentoring initiative at Graceland Park Elementary Middle School working with African American and Latino Male students on teamwork, brotherhood, and academic excellence.
