Successes
Overall, the office experienced many successes that have helped move our 2020 agenda into the next
phase of our development. Below are a few bulleted items around our key success.
•
Heritage 365 Cultural Celebrations: Year-Long programs of Black, Latinx, Asian Pacific, and
Indigenous identities.
•
Multicultural Leadership Institute: Leadership retreat for emerging leaders (First-Years and
Sophomores)
• Over 100 OMA programs with high attendance (most programs were at room capacity)
• Multicultural Leadership Council: Cultural Advisory Board continues to support the retention,
leadership, and affinity of cultural groups and organizations.
• Cross-departmental collaborations: Over 30 offices and department
• Culturescape/Cultureshow celebrations
• Mentoring Assistance Peer Program: The return of the program to OMA has helped to continue
supporting URMs as an affinity/immersion to Hopkins. It will be celebrating its 25 th
anniversary next year.
•
Launched the MOSAIC Podcast series: This project supports students providing interviews and
viewpoints that surround identity. The first episodes surrounded around the topic of
undergraduate multicultural women in leadership positions.
Challenges
• Vacancy of Assistant Director for Diversity Education/Resignation of previous employee
• Finding support/funding for new projects and initiatives; operational monies for AD for
Leadership and Diversity Education
• Demographics statistics: Getting ethnicity/race specific, coupled with other identities
• Recruitment for the new SEED team: Previous year did not yield larger membership
• Consistent assessments and evaluations across our signature programs and events
• Large output/Increased attendance: possible professional burnout
• Student organization advisor: Recruitment of staff and faculty is a challenge
