Both host dance , musicals and concerts . The smaller Playhouse has several resident companies , mostly active September to May : DanceHouse for contemporary dance ; Friends of Chamber Music , which brings in international string quartets and chamber orchestras ; and the Vancouver Recital Society , presenter of topbilled classical soloists such as pianist Murray Perahia .
The larger Queen Elizabeth Theatre is the usual venue for Vancouver Opera mainstage performances , and touring Broadway shows and rock concerts . The theatre and lobby areas were handsomely refurbished a few years ago .
