Dear Walkway Friends,
On behalf of the Walkway Over the Hudson Board of Directors and
staff, welcome to the 3rd Annual Walkway Marathon race series in
partnership with Dutchess County Government! I am thrilled to once
again welcome 2,000 national and international athletes, along with
thousands of spectators and volunteers, all of whom will experience the
beauty of the Hudson Valley firsthand.
We are thankful for the strong support of our partners—Dutchess
County Government, Marist College, the Mid-Hudson Road Runners
Club, the City of Poughkeepsie, Dutchess Tourism, Inc. and many others—as we welcome runners, walkers, and
wheelchair athletes of all experience levels to the Walkway Marathon, Half Marathon, College to College 5K and
Think Differently Dash. This year required many changes and accomodations due to the long awaited construction of
the Ulster Welcome Center on the west side of Walkway State Historic Park. Although it changed the location of the
5K and rerouted the Half and Full Marathons, we are so pleased that this important park improvement is happening. I
am so proud of the incredible work we have been able to accomplish as a team, and look forward to all of the future
endeavors we have planned. It is our hope that you will enjoy all of 2017 changes, and look forward to hearing your
feedback!
Registrants in the marathon will have the opportunity to qualify for the Boston Marathon, and will play a critical role
in aiding our organization’s pledge to make the Walkway Marathon series a “green” race. We are committed to hosting
an environmentally responsible event. From a completely paperless registration system to this digital race packet,
runners are supporting eco-friendly practices from start to finish.
After the race, I encourage you to take a leisurely stroll on the Walkway, ride the 21-story riverfront elevator, get
to know our residents, and savor the beautiful countryside while you are here. We hope that you will have a safe,
successful weekend.
