Race/Ethnicity
According to the United States Census in 2000, 85.6% of Glenview
residents identified as White. In 2010, that percentage decreased
slightly to 83.2%. As the White population decreased slightly,
the percentage of residents who identified as Asian increased
from 10.1% in 2000 to 12.5% in 2010. In addition, the percentage
of residents who identify as being ethnically Hispanic or Latino
increased from 4.1% in 2000 to 5.8% in 2010. Table 1-4 features a
breakdown of the percentage of residents who identify with each
race and ethnicity.
Nationally, the share of the population that is non-Hispanic White
alone is projected to decrease by about 18% among those 65
years and over, and by about 13% among those 85 years and
over between 2012 and 2050. In total however, because of the
projected increase in minority population, both of those age groups
are projected to become a bigger share of the overall population
between 2012 and 2050 (Source: U.S. Census Bureau, 2012 Population
Estimates and 2012 National Projections). While not Glenview specific,
it is important to note that some shift in Glenview’s demographics
will most likely continue to occur.
