FROM THE CHAIR
I am delighted to present the 2017 Annual Report of Villa Charities Inc . As with last year ’ s consolidated report , we are pleased to share highlights and profiles that illustrate the significant value our facilities , programs and services provide to Italian- Canadians and the community at large .
During 2017 , our organization made great progress in implementing the Strategic Plan approved by the Villa Charities ’ Board of Directors a year earlier . The plan sets out a path to realize our Mission to “ celebrate and promote the Italian Heritage , Culture , Language , Arts , Food , and Family Values ” and our Vision to “ be the voice of the Italian-Canadian community .”
Anthony DiCaita , Villa Charities President and CEO , has provided strong leadership in the strategic plan implementation . We are fortunate to have Anthony , who joined our organization in January 2017 , at the helm .
As many of you are aware , the proposal to redevelop the Columbus Centre as a joint facility in partnership with the Toronto Catholic District School Board will not be going forward . Villa Charities ’ Board and leadership remain highly committed to proceeding with the “ reimagining ” theme , and we are currently working to develop a new path forward for our entire campus .
Another major project , initiated in 2017 , is the redevelopment of portions of Villa Colombo Toronto . The project includes upgrading residents ’ living spaces in the Fusco Building as part of a system-wide Ministry of Health initiative , and the opportunity to introduce a wider scope of health and wellness programs to align with campus and community needs .

I am very pleased with the progress our organization made during the year , which is the direct result of the enormous efforts and dedication of my colleagues on the Villa Charities Board and our Affiliate Boards , the leadership of Villa Charities President and CEO Anthony DiCaita and his executive team , and Villa Charities ’ staff . To all of you – and to the members of the community we serve – thank you !
