In 2017 , the Columbus Centre ’ s Joseph D . Carrier Art Gallery once again hosted a mix of repeat and first-time exhibitors , with 41 shows keeping the display areas full throughout the year .
The gallery was proud to host the annual Viva Vitalità exhibit in June , celebrating Italian Heritage Month . The show featured works by Italian- Canadian and Italian artists , a photography exhibit of Calabrian castles and a collection of caffettiere ( coffee makers ). Other popular annual fixtures included Centro Scuola ’ s “ Mostra Dei Presepi di Natale Exhibit ,” a showcase of dozens of Nativity scenes from around the world , which welcomed more than 3,000 students , and the Christmas Studio Art Exhibit , offering unique artworks for Christmas giftgiving .
The 2017 exhibits included an eclectic mix of artistic media and styles : modern acrylic paintings , watercolours , line drawings , sculpture , photography and more .
There were group shows with multiple artists , such as the Ontario Society of Artists , Toronto Watercolour Society and Korean Artists Society of Canada ; individual shows featuring works by Bruno Capolongo , John Cutruzzola , Alessandro Rabazo and Marilena Isacescu and others ; and Italian-themed collections such as Jeff Jackson ’ s “ Italiente ,” an exploration of Italian styles , landscapes and advertising , and “ Journeys to Italy ,” with paintings by five artists inspired by their travels to Italy .
