WINNER: INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENTS
Amrod Head Office, Waterfall Estate
I
n January 2017, Amrod consolidated three Johan-
nesburg based buildings into one 38,000m 2 head
office, production facility and warehouse.
Amrod is situated in Atterbury’s Waterfall Com-
mercial District, LP22. Running along the M1 & N3
highways, at the Beccleuch Interchange, the building
is ideally positioned with a priceless dramatic street
frontage. The development comprises 30,400m²
of warehouse space split into three departments -
picking, storage and production. The total Ground
floor area of the warehouse is 22,500m², but due
to the height of the structure, multiple floors make
up the large warehouse space.
Servicing the corporate promotions, gifting and
uniform market, Amrod requested a design and
building that would enhance their image as the
preeminent service provider in the market. The
building had to reflect their culture as a modern,
innovative and forward thinking company.
The aim was to create a purpose built head office
with an increased African footprint, while at the
same time providing a world class environment for
both customers and staff, with a focus on greater
capacity and improved efficiency.
Due to the site’s position within this area - on the
corner of the junction of two major transportation
routes - the development could be seen to be the
public face for the rest of the sites behind it and as
a result of its aesthetic design, set the benchmark
standard of design which would define the public
image of the new industrial area.
The impressively bold look of the new combined
head office has raised the perceived standard of
Amrod’s local reputation. It has delivered a new
professional impression of the already experienced
SAPOA Awards
company to its clients, surrounding community, and
a sense of pride for the employees, which remained
an important factor throughout the design process.
Additionally, it has become a landmark within the
area as it can be seen alongside Cummins when
entering Johannesburg from Pretoria, as well as
viewed from a distance, due to its impressive scale,
from O.R. Tambo International Airport.
