Rendezvous With Madness Tour & Yukon Film Society Present FILM NING SCREE Ken Foster Dir: Josh Laner / 2016 / Canada / 94 min Sat, August 19, 10pm, KIAC Ballroom The Vancouver street artist Ken Foster is a fixture on the mean streets of Gastown, a district legendary for its community of broken souls. Foster paints what he sees. He paints it boldly and he paints it fast. Partly this is due to his technique: images spring from him like thoughts, the city transfigured into stark visions. But it is also part of his survival strategy: Foster is a schizophrenic crack addict, and he has chosen to live with his demons as a condition of his art. A documentary as fascinating and uncompromising as its subject. With introduction and post-screening talk with Toronto writer/broadcaster/arts and media critic GEOFF PEVERE. Swimming Lessons An Aquatic Lecture Series Curated by Aubyn O’Grady Sunday, Aug 20, 6:30 – (ODD Gallery steps) Swimming Lessons is an experimental aquatic lecture that is part performance-lecture, part research-creation, and part socially engaged art that seeks to explore the entangled, material, and intra-active enmeshments between water, bodies, and knowledges, encouraging sensory exploration and immersive learning experiences. This series will take place down by the river! Meet at the ODD Gallery steps, and we will walk to the spot together. 13
