This past year , OS had several students that were notable for their accomplishments beyond their academic pursuits .

Becky Bereswill ( OS ‘ 16 graduate ) Disney on Ice Figure Skater
Becky is a recent OS honors graduate , and before that was a talented amateur figure skater . She got the call from Disney in 2014 , at the end of her junior year in OS , offering her the amazing opportunity to originate the role of Elsa in the Disney on Ice production of “ Frozen .” She took a leave of absence from OS to tour the U . S . with Disney on Ice , also appearing on Good Morning America and other national media outlets . She returned to U-M and OS in the summer of 2016 , and completed her honors degree in December . She was able to join the European tour of “ Frozen ” for a short time before starting her job in Texas as a Management Consulting Analyst for Accenture .
Heather is an OS honors graduate and dual degree graduate with the School of Music , Theater , & Dance ( music education and violin performance ). Even before graduating , she joined the SMTD staff as the Program Director for the M-Prize Chamber Arts Competition . While completing her studies , she also found
Ian Bunting ( OS rising senior ) Tight End , U-M Football Team
Ian is the first varsity football player to major in OS ! He is a two-year letterman , having started 7 games and appeared in 23 , with a career-best performance in the Orange Bowl last December . While we all enjoy watching his athletic prowess on the football field , he is equally talented in the classroom , and was named an Academic All-Big Ten honoree last Fall . In addition to his athletic and academic commitments , Ian has also successfully launched an entrepreneurial venture as co-founder of the Valiant Clothing and Apparel company .
Jathan Malik ( OS rising senior ) U-M Men ’ s Tennis Team
Jathan is the first varsity tennis player to major in OS ! For the 2016-17 season ( his final season ), Jathan competed at the # 1 Singles and # 1 Doubles positions . Last fall , Jathan and doubles partner Kevin Wong won the title at the regional ITA tournament and then made a run all the way to the semi-finals of the USTA / ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships . After a successful regular season campaign , the U-M Team received an at-large bid to compete in the NCAA Tournament in Stanford , CA , making it to the second round before falling to Stanford . UM ’ s 23 wins this season are the third best total in school history .
Heather Kendrick ( OS ‘ 16 graduate ) 2017 Miss Michigan time to compete and be crowned in the Miss Michigan scholarship pageant , and will soon vie for the Miss America title in September in Atlantic City . And this is not the OS Program ’ s first success in the pageant world ! Heather hopes to follow in the footsteps of OS alumna Gina Valo (’ 06 ), who held the Miss Michigan title in 2007 .
