FISHING No matter who you speak to, when the subject is freshwater fishing destinations in Canada, Sunset Country tops just about everyone’s list! We have over 70,000 lakes up here, more than you could fish in a lifetime and some lakes you’ll want to fish more than once. We have trophy-sized fish in large numbers, pike exceeding 30 pounds and 45 inches, walleye exceeding 12 pounds and 30 inches, lake trout again tipping the scale at 30+ pounds and bass approaching 6 or even 7 pounds. We also have super-sized muskie as there are fish that exceed 55 inches and weigh over 45 pounds swimming in our waters. Top it all off with exquisite brook trout, perch and crappie fishing and that explains why people call us Canada’s premier fishing destination! We also have some of the nicest fishing accommodations you can find and there are a wide variety of trip options available. You can drive, boat or fly in to your fishing destination. You can rent a housekeeping cabin or get pampered at an American Plan lodge. In Sunset Country you can “own” a Canadian lake all to yourself when you stay at a fly-in outpost cabin. You can also rent a houseboat, stay in a campground or fish while on your canoe trip! You can access famous canoe parks such as Quetico, Woodland Car- ibou and Wabakimi to name just a few. Full or partial outfitting packages – including trip guides – are available from our canoe outfitters. On some trips, you can fly in then paddle your way out! CABIN RENTALS The lodges and resorts in Sunset Coun- try can meet all your accommodation needs and you can choose the cabin rental package that suits your tastes and budget. Go flexible with a house- keeping cabin or don’t worry about cooking by choosing the American Plan package. If you want to go really re- mote, consider renting an outpost cabin on your very own lake! Photo: Viking Outposts As you take off from the surface of one of our lakes it won’t take you long to realize how exciting a fly-in fishing or hunt- ing trip really is. You’ll be awestruck by the amount of lakes there are and the huge ridges and stands of boreal forest that line their shores. A fly-in trip gives the word “remote” a whole new meaning and it’s a trip that should be on any angler or hunter’s bucket list! Where else can you be the only person on a lake for the entire duration of your stay? On some days, the fishing is so good you’ll need to take a break between casts! You can access the wilderness several ways includ ing staying at a full-service fly-in lodge, a remote outpost cabin even a remote tent camp. Fly on a reliable bush plane such as a De Havilland Otter or Beaver, a twin engine Beech or a Cessna. Get a bird’s eye view of the wilderness and enjoy the trip of a lifetime! A fly-in trip is unique to the north so come on up and find out what wilderness fishing and hunting trips are all about. CAMPING Sunset Country is a camper’s paradise with 13 Ontario Parks and dozens of pri- vate campgrounds you can be assured of finding that perfect spot. Many of these campgrounds are full service and can support the large RVs all the way down to tent sites. Launch your boat and go fishing or get in a canoe and take a new paddling route every day. 2017 Sunset Country Guide | 5
