Gift Artwork to Honoree by Micol Bayer 1994

ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This original papercut was designed to honor Beryl and Gary Cohen for their dedication to the Northwest Yeshiva High School as recipients of the Jack DeLeon Community Leadership Award . The Cohens exeplify Mr . DeLeon ’ s legacy and devotion to the school . The design is inspired by the artwork that their daughter , Ariella , created for the invitation to the gala . In this design , stylized gears of a clock represent the Cohen ’ s dedication of their time to the mission of the school . These gears also serve as a symbol of the axiom ~ Kol Yisrael arevim zeh la ’ zeh , all Jews are responsible for one another ( Talmud Bavli ). The Cohens serve as a model of our community working together towards a common goal . As the individual gears turn , they become interconnected with one another so too we as members of the community come together and are responsible for each other . Within the circles of the gears is a compass to represent the guidance that Gary and Beryl provide , as well as a ship ’ s wheel for their role in steering the school in the right direction . May Beryl and Gary continue to honor the memory of Mr . Jack DeLeon as they serve as a model for our entire community .
