In Memoriam
Glen Matthews ,
Glen Oaks Miniature Horse Ranch
AMHA was saddened to hear that Glen Matthews of Fairfield , Texas passed away unexpectedly on Sunday January 1 , 2017 . Glen passed away from complications of a previous heart attack he endured in October 2016 . Glen had become an ordained minister in 2013 and passed away while delivering the Lords Message at Sunday service .
Glen is survived by his wife of twenty years , Paula , and his step daughter Kylee Garza . Glen joined AMHA in 1999 , served as a Regional Director and officiated as an AMHA carded judge for the past 10 years . Glen loved his involvement with Miniatures and was always present at the birth of all the foals that he and Paula produced together .
Many knew Glen as the 6 ’ 4 ” soft spoken , quiet man . He had an unselfish heart , always willing to do for others . Some might not know his previous career was with the Houston Police Department assigned to the Northeast Patrol Division , Homicide Division , the Southeast Division and the South Gessner Division with the Gang Task Force . Glen retired as a Sergeant in October of 2002 . When he left the force his fellow officers offered him a plaque with this inscription , “ Great Men are Never Forgotten .” How appropriate for this considerate man who served his fellow man at every turn with no expected reward . Glen Matthews was a great man .
