eye for beautiful conformation was the basis of the
beginning of their friendship. They were kindred
spirits. Shari’s crazy sense of humor, love for life,
passion for animals and intuitive beauty was the
cornerstone of a deep and everlasting friendship
that eventually bound all of our family to hers. She
was a magnet and people were drawn to her. I can
still remember standing out in the pasture beside
my parent’s house one spring afternoon, looking
through some of the mares and foals, as Shari and
Phil made decisions on which horses they would
eventually take home for their new herd.
Shari fell in love with one of Dad’s horses, Brewer’s
Legacy Reflection, a black and white filly that later
became one of her top show mares. Reflection was
out of Shady Acres Dark Moon and sired by Brew-
er’s Orion Legacy. She was one of the few grand-
daughters of Dell Tera’s Queen and Orion-Light
Van’t Huttenest. Under Shari’s direction, she be-
came a real show stopper to say the least. Shari
showed Reflection, winning many championships
and both horse and handler were always the most
elegant couple in the ring… a sight of real beauty!
Later, Reflection became the dam of their well-
known show stallion and herd sire, Celebration’s
Legacy Royale. The Washburn breeding program
became one of the best in the country!
We have so many fun memories of Shari. During
one of those many walks through the pastures, my
brother Roy remembers being concerned that Shari
might come in contact with “chiggers”, so he offered
to spray her down with Deep Woods Off bug spray.
He didn’t notice that she was wearing pantyhose
under her jeans, and the minute he began to spray
her legs and ankles, the chemical in the spray began
to eat away at her hose! They literally melted away!
From that day forward, Roy was always kiddingly
accused by Shari, who related funny angles to the
story that built on their friendship every time she
shared it.

Betty Brewer calls Shari a dear, dear friend, some-
one who created beauty, enjoyed beauty, and sur-
rounded herself with beautiful things, including
her horses. Betty enjoyed staying with Shari at her
homes in Palm Desert and Oregon. Betty and Vern
brought their granddaughter, Cristin, with them to a
show in Eugene, Oregon, where they toured Ore-
gon, watched seals on the Oregon coast and made
homemade strawberry jam.
Even after Vern’s death, Betty and her granddaugh-
ter enjoyed multiple trips where Shari served as
their tour guide. Betty frequently spoke to Shari by
phone and their conversations were always filled
with laughter. There were always so many standing
jokes in each of our relationships with Shari. She
loved a good laugh at anyone’s expense, especially
her own! There are so many memories that put a
smile on our faces. Shari was one of a kind and will
never, ever be forgotten by the Brewer Family...we
will always love her dearly!
