HAPPY HAPPY HOMES “Managing Your Foliage” Every autumn the community is awash with beautiful fall foliage— however these pretty leaves can become a major maintenance issue. It is very important for homeowners to address leaf build up on their property, so that by the fi rst snowfall, community swales are clear and proper drainage can occur. Th ere are many misconceptions about leaf removal in Lake Linganore. Th e Association does not clear or remove leaves from culverts or private property. Homeowners are responsible for maintaining the drainage ditches that border their property and must remove the leaves and debris that accumulate there. Rain and snow melt can only be properly redirected if the community’s drainage system is clear and free of obstructions. October is the perfect time to clear out gutters and drainage ditches in preparation for the winter months. Keep in mind that homeowners are responsible for all the leaves on their property or in their culverts, even if the leaves have blown from a neighboring property. Leaves on your property should be addressed regardless of their origin. Even if you know the leaves ‘belong’ to your neighbor, they are still your responsibility. Th e Association does not provide leaf removal service in the fall. Homeowners are encouraged to utilize yard waste pickup provided on Wednesdays. Residents must use disposable paper ‘lawn bags’ OR a container clearly labeled ‘Yard Waste’–only yard waste that is properly presented at the curb will be picked up. Yard waste containers can be up to 30 gallons. Th e trash contractor will not pick up yard waste in plastic bags. Leaves, grass and clippings must be placed curbside by 7am on Wednesdays for Yard Waste Pickup. Sticks and limbs must be bundled, and bundles may not be larger than 3 x 3 feet in size. Sod and/or dirt are not accepted. Please be sure to fi nish all of your leaf removal projects and yard maintenance before the last Yard Waste Pickup day of the season on Wednesday, December 13.
