During 2016 the Trailblazers worked on several trails throughout the LLA community, including Lake Anita Louise Trail, Pinehurst Trail, Aspen Trail, Balmoral Trail, West Winds Trail, and Lake Merle Trail. Light maintenance work was performed. The scope of work included: spotpruning encroaching vegetation; removing small branches, limbs, and natural debris that had fallen across the path; picking up trash along the pathways, lake and creek shorelines; blazing trail re-routes if necessary; and marking trail locations in difficult-to-follow areas, either by the use of pink ribbons attached to branches and tree trunks or by positioning logs along the edges of the trail. Committee members monitored trail conditions and reported problems and any needed repairs to LLA Maintenance staff, who were always quick to respond. Several individual Trailblazers performed additional trail maintenance activities between our monthly work sessions.

Over the course of the year extensions were completed to two of the existing trails. A one-half mile segment of trail was added to the Woodridge Trail, connecting the upper and northern part of Woodridge Village to Lake Marion, the Brosius Dam, and Lake Linganore. The trail takes folks off the road and follows a safer route through the woods. This project was completed by Oakdale Investments, LLC( the developer) and their contractor( Beachy Companies). Another project that had been“ in the works” for several years is close to completion. This is the trail that links the Woodlands Preserve townhomes and the western part of West Winds Village to the existing West Winds Trail( which runs along Ben’ s Branch Creek and then goes uphill to Cherry Tree Court). The existing dirt trail that starts just north of the

wooden Eagle Scout Bridge and follows the entire. 7 mile length to the back of the townhome properties on Divot Court was cleared of vegetation and evened out. A 6’ mulch path was then established on the pathway. The mulch trail will continue between the 2nd and 3rd buildings and transition to a concrete walkway. It will connect to the new concrete sidewalk that is in place in front of the three townhome buildings. This project is being completed by Wormald Companies( the developer of the Woodlands Preserve) and their contractor.

Two Boy Scouts completed Eagle Projects in the community. One project replaced the fishing dock on Lake Anita Louise and the other project repaired a badly-eroded section of the Lake Anita Louise Trail on the west side of the creek, downstream from“ the Bowl” area. These projects will greatly benefit all the residents of Lake Linganore for years to come.

Throughout the year Trailblazers Co-Chair communicated and met with staff and some residents several times to discuss various trails issues and to walk areas slated for future trail projects and locations. In July a list of suggested projects / trail repair areas was submitted to the LLA Operations Manager to be considered for inclusion in the FY 2017-18 Budget.
