Trailblazers Report
The morning of December 10, 2016 was cold, crisp, and sunny. The temperatures at the start of the work session were in the 20’ s, but for the most part we worked in the woods and were sheltered from the wind. So, temperature was not an issue. The Trailblazers Committee tackled light maintenance concerns on several sections of the Balmoral Trail, including the trail along Lake Linganore below the homes on Balmoral Overlook, the trail leading into the woods east of the last home on Balmoral Overlook above the Lake, and the main trail all the way through the woods to the chimney and stone foundation. Tree limbs, branches, and vines that were encroaching onto the pathway were cut back. Some overhanging vegetation and limbs were also removed. This was an especially enjoyable and entertaining activity for some of the group. Parts of the trail were re-marked with pink ribbons for easier identification of the trail bed. It is especially difficult to follow the path in the fall / winter season when there is the addition of many fallen leaves on the path, so the ribbons are an added benefit. Some trash was removed, including a lawn chair that had probably washed up into a small
creek bed from the lake when it was very high in the fall after a significant rain event.
The Trailblazers Committee is a group of residents who have an interest in the trails in the Lake Linganore community. We perform light maintenance work on many of the trails, especially those in the hilly and wooded areas. The work may entail cutting back branches, limbs, vegetation and vines overhead and on the sides of the paths; removing natural debris from the trail beds; and picking up trash along the sides of the trails. We also do minor trail relocations, as needed. The group meets on the 2nd Saturday of each month( weather permitting) from 9 am to around noon, usually at the Coldstream Pool parking lot. From there we carpool to the designated work site. New folks are always welcome. Check the LLA email blast the Thursday or Friday before the work session date for more detailed information.
